Opal (Lavender) & Opal Split Legbar
Opal Legbars are a beautiful auto-sexing breeds (you can tell what sex they are at hatch). This breed has everything you love and want all in one package. They are barred lavender birds with cute crests, and blue eggs, and best of all, they are auto-sexing!
Opal Legbars lay bountiful quantities of blue eggs. As with all blue egg layers, color perception is dependent on light conditions in which they are viewed, as well as the laying cycle of the hen.
Temperament:
Being closely related to the Crested Cream Legbar, these birds are a great choice for small farms, homesteads and backyards. They are easy-going and social. They are also good foragers and are energetic hunters of insects. These birds are alert, smart, agile, and able to avoid predators in most free-range daytime situations. The roosters are very protective of their hens.
As a responsible breeder, our offering includes Opal Splits. The Spilts breed together to produce an Opal, Splits, and Cream (See breeding chart below).
The splits will look like a Cream/Crele Legbar but carry the hidden lavender gene. By providing these splits, we are ensuring the genetic diversity in the Opal Legbar Line. Thus preventing feathering issues or genetic problems. We have more Full Opals in our breeding pens, alongside a few Split Opals. We only use Opal x Opal and Opal X Cream Splits for our selling stock.
